| On December 8, 2008, 6:30 P.M. at the Welika Lake Fish House in
Lilesville, NC, The "Young At Heart Group" met for their annual
Christmas party. This is a group of senior citizens from the
Wadesboro Church of God. By special invitation, the whole
church, family, friends and neighbors were included in the festivities.
After a sumptuous Banquet, a time of acknowledging those who work with the
Church program was taken care of. Sister Melba Paul is the teacher of
the senior adults and was given an honorium by her class. Sister
Rachel Myers is the leader for the "Young At Heart" activities and was
honored with an honorium from that group. The Pastor Reverend Jeff
Goudlocke then honored other workers within the Church. Then, it was
time to play. Everyone pitched in and helped sing, "The 12 days of
Christmas." Those who were selected, helped act out the day they
represented. Please take note of Wayne Kelly singing and acting out the
eight maids a milking. It was a howling success and we all enjoyed
laughing at each other. Our speaker for the evening was invited from
Monroe, NC, Mrs. Barbara Funderburke. She was an author, had been a
teacher and a nurse. She regaled us with tales of funny things that
had happened to her while on duty as a home health nurse. She
told about the raccoon that was trying to steal her stethoscope.
Another memorable story was about the time she jumped into bed with her male
patient that was when a snake was in the room with them. She rounded
the evening out with story of Jesus' birth from the Bible. Then it was
time to give away some door prizes, pay up and go home with our spirits
renewed and joy in our hearts. There were about 45 present. The
above written by Rachel Myers for web publishing on 04-01-09.

Maybe down the road I will have video capabilities of which would have
been great to capture the theatrics of this fine group. Bill aka Mickey
